Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Gather app ("Gather", "we", "us"), published by Forge Atelier Numérique inc., handles your information. Gather is a recipe app for iOS and Android with optional AI features. We built it to keep your data with you: your recipes live on your device and in your own cloud account, and we run no user accounts or recipe servers.

The short version

• Your recipes never touch our servers. They are stored on your device — and synced or backed up only through your own Apple or Google account.
• We don't track you. No advertising, no third-party trackers, and we never sell your data. Our only diagnostic tool is crash reporting (Sentry), described below.
• AI is optional. Only when you use an AI feature do we send the text you typed to our server and to Anthropic (Claude) to generate a result. We don't store the content of those requests.
• You can delete your data from within the app at any time.

Your recipes stay with you

Recipes, ingredients, notes, and settings you create are stored locally on your device. On iOS, if you are signed in to iCloud, they are synced to your private iCloud database by Apple, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. On Android, they stay on your device and are included in your device's own backup (your Google account) if you have device backup enabled, governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Either way, we have no access to your recipes and keep no copy of them.

What we receive when you use AI features

Gather includes optional AI features — for example chat, ingredient insights, recipe steps, and nutrition (macros) estimates. When you use one of these, the relevant text you provide (such as an ingredient name, a list of ingredients, recipe notes, or a question) is sent to our backend server, which forwards it to Anthropic to generate the response with the Claude model. The response is returned to you and, for some features, cached on your device (and in your own cloud sync/backup) so it works offline afterward.

If you set dietary preferences or restrictions in Settings — for example a diet, an allergy, or a note like "low sodium" — and you have turned on AI data sharing, that information is included inline with each AI request so the result can respect it. Like the rest of your request content, it is used only to generate the response and is not stored on our servers or attached to your identity. You can change or clear it at any time in Settings.

To run this service securely and prevent abuse, our backend stores a small amount of non-content data per app install:

• An anonymous device credential created when the app first uses an AI feature — via Apple's App Attest on iOS or Google Play Integrity on Android. It verifies the request comes from a genuine copy of the app. It is not your Apple ID or Google account and does not identify you.
• Daily counts of AI usage (token counts) tied to that anonymous device, used to enforce fair-use limits.
• For nutrition estimates only, a cached result keyed by a one-way hash of the ingredients you submitted, so identical requests are fast and inexpensive.

We do not store the content of your AI prompts or the full responses on our servers, and we do not attach them to your identity. Diagnostic error logs record that an error occurred, not your request content.

Crash and error reports

To find and fix bugs, the app and our backend use Sentry, a crash- and error-reporting service. If the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, a technical report is sent to Sentry containing things like your device model, operating-system version, app version, and the technical trace of the error. These reports are configured to exclude your recipe content and AI request text, are not used for advertising or tracking, and are kept only as long as needed to diagnose problems. What we don't collect

• No name, email, or password — there is no account to create with us.
• No advertising identifiers, no cross-app or cross-site tracking, and no analytics or advertising SDKs.
• No location, contacts, photos, or device sensors.

Because we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites, the iOS app does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission.

Third parties we rely on

• Apple (iOS) — iCloud storage/sync of your recipes, App Attest, and App Store subscription billing. Apple Privacy Policy.
• Google (Android) — Play Integrity verification, your own device backup, and Google Play subscription billing. Google Privacy Policy.
• Anthropic — processes your AI request text to generate responses. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models and are retained only for a limited period for trust-and-safety purposes. Anthropic Privacy Policy.
• Sentry — receives crash and error reports as described above. Sentry Privacy Policy.

We do not sell or rent your information, and we don't share it with third parties except as needed to provide these features or to comply with the law.

How long we keep data

• Anonymous device record and usage counts: kept while the install is active; removed when you delete your data (see below) or after a period of inactivity.
• Nutrition (macros) cache: expires automatically (about 30 days).
• Crash reports: kept only as long as needed to diagnose and fix the problem.
• Your recipes: kept on your device and in your own cloud account until you delete them — controlled by you, not us.

Your choices and rights

• Use AI or not. AI features are optional and ask you the first time before any text is sent.
• Delete your data. In Settings → Delete my data, you can erase the anonymous device record, usage counts, and tokens we hold. To remove your recipes, delete them in the app or remove the app and its cloud data from your Apple or Google account.
• Depending on where you live — including under Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector and Canada's PIPEDA — you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data and to withdraw consent. Contact us and we'll help.

Subscriptions and payments

Gather offers an optional auto-renewing subscription ("Gather AI"). Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store (iOS) or by Google through Google Play (Android); we never receive your payment details. See our Terms of Use for subscription terms.

Children

Gather is a general-audience cooking app and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes will be reflected here.
